Poisos e poleiros

Perches and roosts

How many times have we seen a Partridge or a Quail on a tree? And a Woodpecker on top of a house? However, many times we searched a roof in ruins with the hope of seeing a Little Owl... Why do we search the sticks and logs at the edge of a lake knowing that possibly we will find a Kingfisher?
It could be for safety and/or camouflage, or because it facilitates the search for food, or even any other biological imperative, but we know that birds have preferences. Some rarely leave the ground, others do not leave the inside of the trees or bushes... there are also those who only rest in the outer dry twigs. Poles, power lines, roofs, fences, boulders on the floor, sludges, reeds, rocks at the surface of water, sand and even the backs of other animals, these are perching sites that attract specific types of birds.

There are, however, birds that we have already seen perched at all of these locations. They are opportunist "perchers" who do not let themselves be limited by petty preferences. The world and all it perches belongs to them!
This is one of those birds. I've seen it on poles, wires, fences, roofs, boulders, reeds, grass, road, sand beach ... he "owns" everything.

PS: There are also those who oppose "the rules." I've had the opportunity to see partridges on oak trees and roofs, as well as many other examples of non-compliance.
